So you just purchased a new iPad, and you are excited to try out the new Retina display. So what do you do? Open up your Netflix app, browse some nifty high-resolution artwork, click play and – what?! You’re looking at the same standard-definition video. So what’s up?

Well, it seems Netflix is taking their sweet time in allowing HD streaming on the new iPad. So, in the mean time, they updated their artwork to appear nice and crisp, but left streaming untouched. Netflix tweeted that HD streaming is “on the way.” Netflix is already streaming 1080p content to the new Apple TV’s, but those wanting to watch some “Limitless” in crystal-clear HD on the new iPad will have to wait.

But of course, delayed gratification doesn’t go over well with consumers nowadays, so what’s a person wanting to indulge in some 1080p content to do? There are a few options. Apple has updated iTunes to include 1080p movies, so if price is no object (most are $4.99 a rental), you can see all the new releases that way.

But, of course, there needs to be a free option! There is. Apple’s “Apple Trailers” app was recently updated to stream HD content, and it looks amazing. (Make sure that you allow your new iPad to buffer a bit, because if it hiccups while streaming, it will reload in standard definition). Hope this helps tie you over until Netflix decides to cause some more strain on their servers by allowing 1080p on the new iPad. We’ll keep you updated!
